Joachim Lim

Joachim Lim is as comfortable playing timpani in Mahler as he is drumming in a rock band. Armed with wide musical knowledge and versatility, he “performs with a razor-sharp edge” (The Straits Times) and is quick to adapt to fellow musicians and any situation he is put into, be it with professional orchestras or collaborations with renowned artists; Peter Sadlo, Sō Percussion, Sandbox Percussion, Kevin Puts, Boston Brass, Adam Rapa, and Igudesman & Joo.

Graduating with First Class Honours from both the Peabody Institute and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Joachim was also Valedictorian, appointed in the Dean’s List, and awarded the National University of Singapore Society (NUSS) Outstanding Achievement Award. He went on to graduate from the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, earning his Masters Degree where he studied with marimba virtuoso Robert van Sice and his team of teachers including Tom Freer and Gwendolyn Dease.

Apart from his Classical achievements, Joachim is also part of the classical-pop fusion quintet, Lorong Boys. Achieving overnight fame and success from spontaneous performances in Singapore trains, the group is highly sought after, with notable achievements including a sponsored music video by Yahoo! Singapore, the President’s Star Charity 2015, the opening of Singapore’s Changi Airport Terminal 4, and their first concerto grosso with the Orchestra of the Music Makers. Joachim is also the percussionist with the TENG Ensemble; a collective that bridges Eastern and Western traditions, marrying both the old and new, their Teng Gives Back initiative sees them performing regularly in communities, reaching out and inspiring listeners. Through these and a strong work ethic, Joachim has also worked closely with many locals talents including The Sam Willows, Inch Chua, Nathan Hartono, Tay Kewei, and “Miss Lou” Peixin.
