Ron Vaughn FlexMount Signature Wood Block Mounting Systems include:

Pictured above: a quartet of Ron’s Signature Wood Blocks mounted sequentially in an ascending/descending order using some of Ron’s FlexMount hardware.  Arrangements like these, and countless other possibilities can be created with this super-flexible, ‘erector-set’ style percussion hardware.
Due to the all-stainless-steel design and construction, this hardware will last throughout a career.  These all-stainless-steel elements will hold their patina, and more importantly, their strength and usefulness year after year, performance after performance.

Next, a Single FlexMount for one of Ron’s Signature Blocks, complete with all Stainless Steel metal components, High-Density Foam cradles, and integral bungee cord ligaments with detent-pin connectors. These connectors fit perfectly into all installed receiver sleeves built into every Ron Vaughn Signature Wood Block.

Next, some good detail of the simple detent pin received port.  These ports are installed in every Ron Vaughn Signature Wood Block, and have been for decades, whether the performer does or does not own any of Ron’s FlexMount block mounts. This is how the detent pins are ‘plugged-in’ to Ron’s Signature Wood Blocks.
Here’s a good look at one of these simple, lined ports . . .

Next, a good view of the same port as above, only with the detent pin inserted.  This connects the bungee ‘ligament’ to the block.  The blocks are held, free-floating, in the High-Density foam FlexMount cradles.  All of these blocks sing with their full voice as their sound is never being constrained or grounded by direct hardware contact such as clamps, screws, or other sound-muffling hardware or fasteners.

Next image below, an array of Ron’s FlexMounts together with an array of Ron’s Signature Wood Blocks.  All of these blocks are individually adjustable, as are all of the FlexMount structural bars, their positions, angles, height, etc.
What holds it all up?  Note the TBase’s 3/4″ stainless steel tube descending from near the center of the block array.

Together, this hardware creates a powerful, stable, and fully adjustable assembly, allowing each player to adjust their own unique setup exactly as they require for their personal performance.
Strength, flexibility, and the creation of tremendous, authentic sound when played with Ron’s High-Density Head Wood Block Mallets.

Ron’s FlexMount Signature Wood Block product development history:

Ron first began working on a way to mount his Signature blocks in the 1970’s when he first began playing regularly in recording studios.
Whenever a song, tune, piece, ad-lib or composition of any kind called for multiple block pitches, Ron found the the blocks always sounded their best when they were ‘nested’ in something soft, without any direct physical restraint or rigid/fixed connectors that were holding, grabbing, or grounding the blocks and their sound.

Back in the day, the best solution Ron found was to loosely bunch up a couple of those big, heavy piano quilts, and then set the blocks in the folds of the big quilts.  This was fantastic for great recorded sound, though not so great for keeping your blocks set up where you could reliably find them in the same place every time.

If just one block was needed and the part was only single notes in simple rhythm, Ron could hold a single block loosely in one hand and a mallet in the other, and the block always sounded terrific recorded.

Ron’s solution: FlexMount block mounts.
Today, Ron’s FlexMounts are a direct mimic of holding a wood block in your hand to play, and still attain 100% of the sound-producing potential of a wood block.
In a FlexMount Cradle Mount blocks always sing to their maximum, and remain in exactly the same reliable position that you personally arranged.

Ron filed his first successful patent on his block mount designs many years ago now, and he continues to add to his own personal ‘patent library’ today.

If you have Ron’s blocks and don’t yet have any of his FlexMounts, or are saving up for them, you can still make the big quilts work for achieving the best sound in the mean time.  It’s still just a little tricky with the blocks and quilts, as the blocks like to bounce around in the folds of the quilts.
