The Freer Percussion Cloyd Duff #6 soft/legato model is one of the softest and largest models in the Cloyd Duff line up. Larger felt core than Duff 4 with thicker German felt. This replica version of the Cloyd Duff series features a 13.5” American hickory shaft with a CNC machined felt core at a very specific durometer to match the originals. The cartwheel covering of super soft limited edition green German felt (thicker than FPCD4) is tightly sewn for a super clean sound yet produces a softer and warmer/darker tone than the FPCD4 mallets.

The hickory shaft, compared to bamboo, offers a completely different balance, feel and rebound off the head. Even the nuts on these new models are replicas of the originals and are made on CNC for consistency and precision.

Excellent for Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Brahms (beginning of Brhams 1), Sibelius, Bruckner, Strauss, Bartok (Concerto for Orchestra Intermezzo) and Wagner among many others. Huge round sound but still an excellent legato roll mallet.
